I have a MICS DR5 software. The customer has a Pri and recently changed carriers from MCI to AT&T. After the switch they have been having a problem with incoming and out going calls. When you dial out you may make 7 or 8 calls and they go out fine. Then calls will fail for severl calls. When it fails what happens on the call is ( You dial the number and the number shows up in the display of the phone your calling out from and just set there for ever and does nothing and this will happen for several calls and then for some reason it starts working again. The T1 is setup NI-2,ESF,ISDN,B8ZS.Telco has tested and have found no trouble. My primary clock is set to telco (the PRI span) I see no errors bypolars slips ect.

Thanks in advance

How many channels do you have? Is this on incoming, outgoing or both?

What problems are they having on the incomming calls?

When this fails it affects incoming and out going. incomming calls get a busy.Out going calls just do nothing after the number is dialed. this has been going on sence the carrier switch to AT&T. I have replaced the the combo card and DTI card.

I've had a few locations that I've had to upgrade sw for when they've changed providers. Try getting either the last release of 6.1MR, or 7.1 sw.

Thanks to all. Just a note. Before I left the site Yesterday I disabled and enabled the PRI. This seamed to jump start the PRI and it started working. I've got a feeling the problem will come back, when I replaced the Combo and DTI cards in the past the PRI would be fine for a few days and then the problem would come back.

Sometimes Telco forgets to build all the channels, and the calls will stop just as you describe. But, it's usually only outgoing or only incoming, due to ascending/descending.

The only way to know for sure what is happening is to put a tester with q.931 on the span looking both ways. The messages will indicate what is causing a call to not establish/reject (with reason code). Short of that, DR5 was not the best, as the guys described, and you might consider an upgrade. The fact that it worked fine before and doesn't now indicates, it would seem, some kind of communication error from MCI's programming to AT+T's(protocol, a flag,?....). The bummer is that the phone company never has a problem with their eq..............

CHECK WITH ATT TO SEE IF THEY HAVE B-CHANNEL SERVICE TURNED ON IN THE CENTRAL OFFICE FOR THAT PRI, IF SO HAVE THEM TURN IT OFF. NORSTAR DOES NOT SUPPORT THAT OPTION

I had sort of the same problem recently. Kept getting alarm 75, and it was dropping calls. Did the same thing you did and replaced DTI card and Combo. Problem still came back. Is there an Adtran or something similar in between the hand off and the phone system. If so try to reboot the equipment or look to have it replaced. On my problem it tunred out the Adtran had to be replaced. Had me tied up for a couple of days till I figured it was the Adtran.

Just to be sure that there is no misunderstanding here, upgrading to 6.1 or higher (go ahead and go to 7.1) is NOT an option with PRI! Nortel T.A.C. will tell you that you MUST do it even if you think you've got everything working ok or it will keep cropping it's ugly head up again and again. There is extensive dialogue on this subject here in the archives and I have personally run into this problem many times. If you're still trouble shooting ANY kind of squirrelly little problems on a MICS with 5.0 AND PRI, (even if the problem seems to be totally unrelated to any PRI issues!!!) you're just spinning your wheels! Jump to 7.1 and THEN start trouble shooting!
