Nortel HDLC talking to Cisco RFC HDLC?

Our network has a T1 backbone interconnected with Nortel BCN routers. These BCN routers then are connected to ARN (a few ANH/AN) edge routers using Nortel's proprietary HDLC protocol. As a note, we are using version 13.20 code on all the routers and OSPF as a routing protocol.

We are currently testing a Cisco 2600 and I think it is running version 12.2 code (the best I can tell), but it is using standard RFC HDLC. Could someone let us know what sort of issues we might run into getting this to talk with the BCN or any other hints or help you might have?

Thanks

Just remeber that Cisco out of the box and by default talks Cisco. Configure the CIsco encapsulation and LMI type for the standard. If you take the defaults on the Cisco it sets it up to talk Cisco propietary protocol.
We have had a 2600 talking to an ARN and a 3700 talking to a BCN. So they will work together.

My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my knowledge.

I'm pretty sure that the Nortel is using standards-based HDLC and it's the Cisco that's using proprietary...

That doesn't really matter - Bottom line is that they won't talk (in my experience).

The solution is to use RFC PPP which is supported on both. Nortel also has an option for a standard PPP or something like that - do not use that. (it is proprietary)

Thanks for the help. I'm not sure using the RFC ppp will be an option, we will have to look at it.
