I am a VPN "newbie" so don't yell if it's a dumb question.

I am trying to get a Nortel EAC VPN to run through my DI-704 router at home. The router has the original firmware that only supports PPTP protocol - this could be my problem.

I am reluctant to upgrade the firmware for fear that I may have other problems with our regular DSL connection, so I want to confirm a few things.

Does anybody know how to allow access to a particular IP thru this router?
What protocol does Nortel EAC run?
Will the firmware upgrade on the DI-704 help me?

Thanks very much!!

Have you tried getting a copy of the current firmware for your D-Link router? I have Linksys, and I've been able to get the older versions of the fw by keeping up with it. I've never had a problem with upgrades, except the time I forgot to save my Net2Phone account number and password. Not Linksys' fault, I should have had it in the file. One phone call fixed the problem.

I've had great success upgrading flash in router; it's usually no change at all. If you call for router tech support, it's the first question they ask. They won't even talk to you any more until you upgrade to current fw.

As long as you have the previous fw, you can always go back. Some of the utilities will allow you to dump the ROM to a file, even if you don't have the original fw from D-link.

Hope it helps.
