I've just been given a Nortel Compact ICS system with ver 7.1 software (restricted cartridge according to google) and a NT7B75AAAE line card and 8 M7324 phones. I'm checking it out before I decide to keep or sell it and currently have one question about it.

How many station ports are supposed to be active? Currently only the first four station ports are active. The business that gave it to me used all 8 phones, and recently upgraded to a full ip based phone system.

Thanks in advance for any info.

If it's restricted then it's 4 lines and 8 stations.

You must mean "Trunk Ports"

Back in the day you would purchase a key code to open it up to 8X24 but now you just buy the standard software and swap it.

FYI 7.1 is the last/best version

RES is Restricted
STD is Standard
AA is Auto Attendant Prompts
IRAD is for techs to program remotely

You have one of the two bold ones, look on the software card to see if there is RP or RIP:

DI=CICS 7.1 RES IRAD-OFF+AA PROG PROMPTS (RP)(4X8) C12
DJ=CICS 7.1 RES IRAD-ON+AA PROG PROMPTS (RIP)(4X8) C12

DF=CICS 7.1 STD IRAD-OFF+AA PROG PROMPTS (SP)(8X16/24)C12
DH=CICS 7.1 STD IRAD-ON+AA PROG PROMPTS (SIP)(8X16/24) C12

Thanks for the info. I tried a different cable with the 50 pin amp connector and managed to get ports 101 to 105 working, so it looks like 3 of the ports may be dead, which may explain why they gave it away. I do see CICS-RP with some smudged characters then an FC on the label that's on the card.

In the UK, Nortel did a specification just for us with selling the Compact 6+16 as a 4+8. The only difference was that the 50 pin amp connector had been modified to accept 8 extension ports for the 4+8 system.

They charged loads of money to upgrade it to a 6+16 and all we had to do was swap out the cable.

Just get yourself a regular 7.1 and you'll have up to 16 ports .. Even if a few are dead you should still have plenty.
