Can anyone explain what the importance of doing business with a Nortel Channel Partner is for maintenance contracts, support and upgrades?

Is a non channel partner not able to perform the same functions or are they not authorized to conduct business concerning Nortel products, upgrades, etc.?

Do non channel partners sub contract these services and upgrades with channel partners increasing the cost of such services?

I believe this to be the case but would like other opinions.

Thank you in advance,

Non-channel partners don't have access to Nortel support, but may get it from a Nortel Partner and yes they will pass the cost on to you. Depending on what kind of problems you may have, a Non-partner may be all you'll ever need. We do T&M with Nortel Partner's and Non-partners and do most of our own Maintence.

best bet is to do business with someone you trust.. parts on hand and certified people in the field as well as response time.. always good to save a few bucks but it's not a fun when you can't call anyone to tell them.. i've worked for both sides of the house and the people in the field make the most difference, not the sales force and the brochures.. at midnight on an upgrade the sales people are in bed and it's just you and one person.. that person needs not only a good background but access to support..
