I have a Nortel BCM 1000 that refuses to allow the viocemail feature. I had heard something about a recall on these, is that just a fairy tale? Please Help!

Thanks Skye

Open the lid on the system and see if the capacitors are green or blue. The green ones are the problem children. They bulge and leak at the top. Another way to see what type of motherboard you have is to open the little "door" at the bottom on the left side of the cabinet. If the colors on the connectors is black then you have a Portway board. Portway boards were the bad boards. This will cost you to replace. I believe that the time ran out for Nortel to replace for free. Others can share some light on this.

The BCM 1000 don't have a Base Function Tray, but it did have the Bad Capistor problem.

The BCM1000 BFT replacement has been extended to 12/31/07.
Just to look for the color is not the save way. I also had blue caps leaking :)
You'd better write down the "NT7xxx" number from the BCM and compare it to the "BCM1000 BFT issue bulletin" available at nortel.com

Correct is: Nortel ran out of replacement BFTs. They just send you full BCM1000 systems where you have to unscrew the BFT for yourself :)

I repeat BCM 1000's DO NOT have a BFT, they have a motherboard and nortel isn't covering the BCM 1000 since 12/31/06. The BCM 200, 400 are covered until 12/31/07.

You can get it repaired at

Per bulliten 2006007435, the entire BCM 1000 platform is end of life. Nortel will support the BCM 1000 through 12/31/07 up to release 4.0. You can't upgrade a 1000 past 4.0. No FRU units for the 1000 are orderable after 2/15/07.

But, we never heard back from the original poster if he even has a capacitor problem. Might not even be an issue.

Here's the excerpt. B-stock are repaired system boards. Same can be done by sending to the place that acewarlock mentioned.

Note that Nortel currently offers a B Class only BCM1000 Motherboard FRU, in support of the
motherboard retrofit program, as documented in Clarify Bulletin 2005006015. Although the
retrofit program will expire December 31, 2006, this FRU will remain available for orders as a
Class B FRU through to February 15, 2007. The product code for the BCM1000 motherboard
FRU is NTAB3463, the CPC code N0019401. Please note this motherboard is available only for
the following BCM1000 System Codes:
