Nortel and Virtualbox or vmware?

has anybody been able to get a Nortel Modem to work with a Windows XP System on a virtual machine? I need the Norstar Customer Information software to dial into the modem. I have the ports forwarded correctly from the host to the guest, but it doesn't dial out to the modem. It always says no response.
