Thank you,

do you have a question, or are you just posting this as a message to us all?

Can you please tell me if routes in a PBX are programmed for inbound call, or are they just for outbound?

barry,

print out your route data blocks and look at the ICOG (Incoming Or Outgoing) prompt:
OGT = Outgoing only
ICT = Incoming only
IAO = Incoming and Outgoing

Thanks,

One more question, what programming points the inbound calls to the routes?

You generally do not have the ability to dynamically control inbound calling to specific routes (there are exceptions for some advanced applications).

For instance, if you have one or more PRI's for inbound calls, then usually, you also purchase a range of DID numbers from the telco that will terminate on these PRI's. You can also purchase Toll Free numbers from your carrier that you can terminate on particular PRI's that are identified by a particular string of numbers that are transmitted to the switch every time a call comes in (DNIS).

For copper trunks, it depends on how you order them. If you order multi-line hunt groups, or POTS (plain old telephone service) lines, then there will be telephone numbers associated with those trunks that will ring when they are dialed.

Where can you find the programming that tells inbound calls which route to take?

In the Telco C.O. You do not have access to that. What are you trying to do?

unless the call is ddi (did), in your route, auto will = yes, then on the trunks, you will have a atdn.. the number all inbound calls route to for that trunk..

with ddi, your provider sends digits.. usually match your dn's.. stateside, my telco sends 4 digits to a route, the next vacant trunk, then sends those four digits inbound, my switch sees that as any other 4 digit call..

inbound target to the trunk or route is a function of the far end.. we do routing depending on trunk type and signal arrangement..
