Nortel 7316 with Plantronics CS50 confusion

Hello -

At my old job, I had some Plantronics CS50 headsets with a norstar system, and it worked great without any handset lifters installed. One would just hit the button on the earpiece and get dialtone, and could also answer remotely without hitting any buttons or lifting the handset on the phone.

At my new office, I have purchased a couple of CS50 units to work with the Norstar system, but they are not working the same way for some reason. I have tried plugging them into both the handset port and the headset port, but the functionality is not working correctly. One must push buttons on the phone or lift the handset.

Is there something I'm missing here?

yes, memory!

There is no way to answer a set unless:
Handset is picked up
Button is pressed on set

The headset jack on the phones is for audio only.

When you hit "the button" on the headset it will tell the lifter to "lift" then you get dial tone (useless) or answer the inbound call (if set to Ring).

No, I just talked to them and there is no lifter in place, they can push the button on headset only to answer calls.

You sure its a 7316 and not an IP set?
Get the NT # from the phone.

Wireless Headsets: Both Plantronics and Jabra/GN Netcom wireless headsets are compatible with Nortel phones. For remote answering on the Nortel phones you need a Plantronics HL10 Lifter (or GN 1000 lifter for Jabra/GN Wireless Headsets).

Only the Nortel IP Phone E1120E, 1140E, 1150E, 1165E phones are Hookswitch compatible. For the Plantronics CS series (i.e. - CS55, you need the Plantronics APU-7 cable, and for the Savi Series (i.e. WO100), you need the APU-70 hookswitch cable).
