Halving a great deal of trouble trying to get the system to backup have tried just about everything keeping in mind that I don't know a great deal. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks Much

So when you go into ld 43 and do an edd what happens?

Trying to restore from floppy it starts then craps out. We don't know if we have a good backup on any of the disks.

I see, the plot thickens. You say floppy, you must have very old processors, Motorola, 68060 or prior?

Yes but at this point would you suggest replacement if we could find them.

Thanks

Have you tried the floppy / floppies in another disc drive to see if you can read them?

Yes we do have more than one drive and neither works.

If you have the ability to look at that floppy in a PC I would do that and see if there is anything on it.

KC am I just looking for the disk to contain info or would I be able to read off of it in say notepad or something similar.

You need to be more specific with regards to floppy disks. First of all let us know your systems TID and ISS in LD 22 please?. From that I should have an idea about the type of floppy disk you have.

The later floppy's were standard 1.44 meg disks. However, the older releases were 2 meg ED disks. It might be that you can one of them and that your computer can't read the Nortel disk format.

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

Just that the disk contains info. You won't be able to read it.

First of all I just joined this board and thanks for all the help from the followers that have replied it is much appreciated. So keeping in mind that I am somewhat limited on my knowledge of Nortels is there any other possibilities that would corrupt the system other than the disk drives.

Thanks again
Kelt

It's possible for the drive to be corrupted. What errors are you seeing when the problem happens?.

As I've stated above, we need to know what release and software version and it would help if you could provide us with it.

Thanks Firebird I think this is the info VER-2911 REL-25 ISSUE-40Bt. Hope this helps

From reading some of my old Meridian data, it looks as if you have a..

MERIDIAN OPTION CPU TYPE MACHINE SOFTWARE MIN MAX SOFTWARE

Meridian 1 61C CP4 GEN 29.11 22 25

I would have thought that your floppy disks would have been a typical 1.44 meg and you can read them OK connected to a computer.
