I have a nortel 5520 Layer 3 Switch with 2 VLANS set up. VLAN 1 is 10.100.1.1 and VLAN 127 is 10.100.127.1. Whenever i give myself a static address in the 127 network I can not ping 10.100.127.1 and the switch cannot ping me. Anyone know what im missing. The Switch has software version 5 installed.

IP routing isn't enabled by default:
switch1#show ip routing
IP Routing is disabled
IP ARP life time is 21600 seconds
switch1#

To enable it:
switch1#config
Configuring from terminal or network [terminal]?
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
switches(config)#ip routing

You'll also need to make sure the management 'interface' is in one of the routed VLANs. I'm not sure about the CLI but in the menus its under /switch config/lan config/vlan config/ - just make sure the 'Management VLAN' field is right.

Steve,

Are using a layer 3 VLAN interface? Such as "interface vlan 127"? Is the vlan enabled?
Also, check to be sure the port you're connected to on the switch is enabled, and configured to be in vlan 127.

Hey guys
I have both the vlans enabled as well ip routing enabled. All ports have both vlans enabled.

Are your ports tagged or untagged?

What is the PVID of the port that you are using? Try making the PVID 127.
