I am trying to figure out whether the 5510 48T supports many to 1 port mirroring or just 1 to 1. Also, if VLANs are supported for port mirroring. Ideally, I need to span 3 ports to 1 ingress and egress.

Any help would be appreciated.

The 5510s support ingress/egress mirroring up to two ports at once or mirroring by up to two MAC addresses. A while back I looked at the HP-2824, which seemed decent and could do many to one port mirroring... in my case I use little Allied Telesyn 8012M switches where I need to do many to one port mirroring.

is´nt a many to one port mirroring a performance problem ???

ph. 2 x 1000 Mbit/s to 1x 1000 Mbit/s ???

i think that you habe a many of lost datas or ????

correct me : - )

There is certainly a danger of the egress buffers on your monitor port filling up, which may be why the BayStack switches I've seen limit you to two mirrored ports. Other platforms warn us but allow the configuration to take place.

Sometimes mirroring multiple ports is the only alternative to using shared media like hubs. For example if I include an IDS system on a DMZ it would be best to watch traffic coming and going from all of the servers in the DMZ network.

Like everything else in this buisness it largely depends on the utilization of the ports involved.
