am trying to hookup this unit to a bcm 3.7
when plug in power , lights go on in the regular way
then the error light goes on , what to do the configuration through the serial port (using 9 pin null modem cable)
when connected to pc all lights on 2245 go out, (and my monitor flickers at a steady pace)(shrugging shoulders)

when i break down the 9 pin it turns out that pin 5 is the one that causes the blanking , and am still not able to connect to the 2245 (have tried it with 3 pcs, same problem)
is the 2245 fubar or is there a fix

thanks

Where's your monitor connected to?
You should configure the 2245 from your serial cable using hyperterminal.
Is the 2245 brand new?

the monitor is connected to the pc i think it is to close to the serial cable I'm not worried about that

the 2245 is new (or so I'm told)

I'm using hyper terminal and have tried telix as well
2 desktop pc's and a laptop does not work on any

Whether that thing is new or not, you should still be able to access it through that serial port.

If all the lights go out on it just by plugging in your cable, it's either your cable or the unit is defective. I've found that not all of those cables are created equal. I too have had ones that wouldn't allow a connection even though they said they were null modem.

I would try another cable first. Second, if you have Procom on your PC, try using it to determine if you actually have a connection or not using the status lights on the bottom. Swap cables while connected and see if they change.

Personally, I have one of those Nortel cables that has both a 9 pin and 25 pin at each end. It seems to work in pretty much every scenario.

In any case, the pinouts for that cable according to the doc are as follows:
1. Carrier Detect
2. Rx Data
3. Tx Data
5. Ground
7. Request to Send
8. Clear to Send

Comm parameters are:
VT-100 emulation
9600 BPS
8 Data Bits
1 Stop Bit
No Flow Control

Hit enter and you should get the login prompt.

If changing cables doesn't do it, you're stuck with trying another 2245.

Good Luck.

thanks

i guess its fried

i'll see if i can get another one
have tried other cables and it seems every time i connect the ground pin it messes up

thanks again
