I have heard that release 7.0 for the MICS will increase the digital station expandability. It's always bothered me that ports 11 & 12 on the second expansion card were "reserved" for wireless applications only. It always seemed like a marketing ploy to me.

I understand that release 7.0 will allow for digital station cabinets which will increase the system by 32 digital station. Has anyone else heard of this? I have tried to find documentation for 7.0 on the Nortel web site with no luck. I believe 7.0 should be available in Mid-November.

If any of you have information, I'd really appreciate it. I have several offices that have almost maxed out their MICS.

that'll be great ...we've not heard or seen anything from nortel in this regard
lets wait and see ...

Yes I got that strait from my Nortel Rep!
I have documents for signing up sites for the beta test of 7.0 that say just that. Part of the requirement was 2 station modules and 32 active phones to be in use on fiber ports 13 & 14.
They also talk about a new cell based wireless system that works on those ports too. This time they have passive repeaters that just need power. You setup the main base units and then place 6 repeater around in a star. Should be able to cover a huge area with a setup like this.

Thanks rhowlett. I don't know if I want to be part of the beta test, but it is good news for those sites of mine that are almost maxed out.

it would make sense that they release the ports for 0x16's since companion is discontinued... but alas this is Nortel

Also can confirm via Nortel Engineer that ports 13 and 14 will be opened up for station usage.

Also seen this documentation GA is slated for November 2004.
I believe the new wireless solution is an OEM of the Spectralink product.

I heard that from my Spectralink rep. sounded different from the Link product I am familiar with.
