I am trying to install a CD player for MOH. I have the source on violet/slate. I get background music just fine but no music on hold. The software is DR5 and is programmed for on hold: music. When I change it to tones I don't get anything but silence. Any suggestions?

Hi fonegirl,

I set up a system in my shop and attempted to duplicate your problem. I was unsuccessful. I attempted this with DR2, DR4 and DR5 software versions.

Each time, If I have Bkgrnd Music set to "yes", and on Hold set to "Music", I was able to get Music on hold.

The thing that baffles me is what you said about Tones:

"When I change it to tones I don't get anything but silence"

That leads me to believe that there is an internal problem with the KSU, preventing any audio from being transmitted to the CO ports.

It seems you have everything hooked up and programmed properly. I have worked on a switch before where the background music came through normally but MOH was extremely faint. All I did though was turn up the volume though and it worked fine. It does seem very odd that you can`t even get the tones to come up. I have yet to come across a switch with a defective MOH. You are testing this correctly I hope. I`m not meaning to insult your intelligence in any way, but on some installs I`ve done, before I`m ready to leave I have been told that I didn`t have the MOH working, only to find they were checking for it incorrectly. I think they were putting calls on hold and expecting to hear it or something like that. We`ve all had our bad days before...

I would have to agree with Dave that you would most likely have a defective KSU.

Since tones are 100% internal, requiring only selecting it (music/tones/silence), it would seem to be internal.

But do check the volume.

Also, older software, I seem to find, can have its own Alzheimers. I have a DR5 system now with funny voice mail -- some stations offer the prompt requiring the user at their station to enter both the extension number and the password. And some seem to not be able to show messages waiting.

There is no scrutiny that can, it seems, uncover the source of these gremlins. I might just reboot and cross my fingers.

Then it is up to the client.

Yours,
Mike

I agree with you all it sounds like the KSU may have a problem.

The trouble of no MOH or Tones OH but background works brought something to mind... Were you checking for MOH using a station to station call? MOH or tones are not available for hold between stations only on outside lines.
I had made this error and it caused some headscratching and book reading for me. I Didn't see you specify where you were looking for MOH.

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I was checking for MOH by calling in externally and having them put me on hold. Haven't been able to get it to work. I suspect it is a bad KSU.
