Stage set:
Replacing an old Toshiba analog system....

Newly installed Modular ICS 5.0 - mini-not expanded.
Has (8) Analog Trunks (Ameritech is the local carrier)
Has (11) Digital sets.
Customer is in an area that has 10-digit local dialing.

Administering system remotely using NRU 9.0

Symptoms:
When attempting to place LOCAL or TOLL FREE calls...
Calls are not being processed at all. The p`erson dialing must dial "Very slowly" in order to get the call to go through. Speed dials will most certainly not work, at all.
The system is delivering DTMF, (I have verified this fact).

When attepting to dial INTERSTATE calls, outside of their Lata, calls are processed perfectly. The customer has had no problem dialing my local number at all (I am an interstate call for them) However, the customer is unable to call me on our Toll free number.

All lines are Supervised...
Loss Package is set to: Short CO
Privacy on lines is set to YES
Link at CO is set to NO
Disconnect timer is set to: 460

What am I missing????????????

Help would be appreciated.

Not feeling like much of a NORSTAR PRO right now.. :) Dave McCall

Hey Dave

Just wondering why the loss package is set to short CO. I`m not even sure what that does, but I believe the default is medium and have never seen a system where it has been changed. It may be worth a shot to try it with medium.

Schlum,
Have have tried each of the settings in the Loss Pkg with no change in results. I even tried the "PBX" settings for grins.

I actually think the problem lies in the Line setup from the CO. However, I will have a hard time proving that to them, as you know they will certainly require me to do.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again! Dave McCall

Are they having any trouble making calls from their fax or an analog modem? It may help isolate the problem.

How about when they dial using long tones.

Are there any routing tables set up?

Are there any external autodialers installed for access to a LD carrier that could be causing a problem?

Lastly, could their problem be digit specific. Is there a common digit in all their calls that don`t work. Reason being, is that I once hooked up an external zoned paging unit and could not get zone 2 to work. DTMF for the number 2 was a fraction shorter than all others and was not long enough to trip the zone.

Just throwing out some thoughts and I know some may not be relevant according to your question, but it`s all I can think of for now. Best of luck. It`s not the easiest problem to figure out, especially remotely. Keep us posted.

Have ya tried a making and receiving calls on the CO side of the demarc with a testset? Other than what Schlum mentioned above I can't think of anything to add.

Schlum asked: Are there any external autodialers installed for access to a LD carrier that could be causing a problem?

You "hit the nail on the head"! Schlum. You are the man. The client conveniently failed to mention this until yesterday. Since I have not been on site, I relied on him to be my eyes on the site.

The kicker is: The autodialers were no longer being used!

As always Schlum, "you da man!"
