How do I do a complete system restart on a Norstar Meridian? We have bought a used one and want to wipe everything out.

The passowrd for **startup has been changed.

To wipe out the programming of your Norstar do a Feature **startup. (Note you can only do this command for the first 15 minutes after you plug your Norstar in.) Enter the installer password 266344. Select YES to reset memory. And there you go, that should wipe out your system.

The **startup works however it doesnt take the config as password.

sounds like the config password has been changed on you. You can take a RAD and log in on a computer (browser format on the RAD) and change the password then you can do the Feat **startup (remember w/i 15 mins of power on.)

Sorry about the first reply I was not sure if you waited 15 mintues. But here a 3 other things you can try.

1.) If the KSU has an expansion cartridge, simply power the KSU down, remove the cartridge and power up. This will of course wipe out all programmed data including installer passwords. Should the KSU not have an expansion cartridge, add one and repeat the previously listed instructions. Another method is to boot the KSU with an older version of software forcing it to do a cold restart. (WARNING: You loose all customers programming!). All programming defaults so your Install password will be config.
2.) Connect my own RAD to the Norstar, then use Norstar Manager "on line session" for pre 2.0 releases or Remote Tools "browser" for 2.0 and newer releases. You gain access to the database with out needing a password (it's your RAD so you know its password) and this allows you to display all passwords in the system.
3.) There is one other drastic measure that will force the switch to do a cold restart, and that is to short the battery on the MICS motherboard. Simply open up the plastic case, find the battery, bridge the battery posts with a screwdriver head, plug it in, and the switch forgets its ever had any software installed. This is NOT, I repeat NOT, supported by Nortel, and will void any warranty, but is also works on RAD's when you've forgotten the password. Very useful on switches out of warranty.

Good Luck!

I had to actually short out the capacitor on the software cartridge in order to have it return to default.

Thank you for the help.

If you shorted the cap without using a resistor I would change the date on the phone system and then power it down. If the new date does not return after power up to the date you set it to you probably toasted the cap and cannot hold memory any more. In fact check it anyway.

Wish posters would provide info on their system or hire a tech to begin with. It would go a long way to minimize problems.

Rant.

Cheers

Ya shooting blind on answers can cause confusion, What I try to put on when I ask a question is system, version, voicemail, and version plus any oddball things like E&M, PRI, etc that might be attached.
