I still need help!

I had time last evening and ran into the same dead-end I have been.
I have greeting table 1 and ccr tree 1
These are the steps I took:
1. Disable the ccr tree
Note: Path 0 is "home menu" that callers hear immediately after the greeting (which I believe is standard). It currently gives them several options and those options flow to path 1 through 5. Path 6 is currently blank.
2. I go in to edit ccr tree 1
a. Choose path 6 and make it a menu
b. Record the primary greeting
c. Press okay to accept the recording.
d. Choose no for the alt prompt (I'm assuming this means alt language)
The manual provides no further detail on menu points and simply states "You can now continue to build this tree and add more points..."
After you press no for the alt prompt you are asked to once again enter a path. If I enter 11 it gives me an "invalid path" error. The same is true of 21, 31, etc.
I can't figure out how you build this tree and make path 1 (or 2, 3, etc) a menu path that offers callers more options than the "home menu" (path 0). The manual states that path 0 can route to an info message, a mailbox (leave message), an extension or another menu. I don't see how when you create a menu point that you program it to go to the desired path when a single digit number is pressed. Additionally, I cannot figure out how you get to Path 11 (or 21, 31, etc) to record a message or do a transfer.
What am I missing here? Is there significance to the dash (ie 1-1, 1-2, etc) in sprucegrover's reply?
