New at this!!! I have a site that is moving and upgrading from copper lines to PRI/DID trunking. Software is upgrading to 6.x a week prior to site move.
Current system has 3 didgit extension dialing - ex. default dialing 221 - to 253. The CO will be passing 3 digits across the PRI but the only DID range available was 0372-0431 - so they will pass 372-431.
1) How do I translate the new DID range to the existing extension numbers (or do they need to change?)
2) All outbound calls will go out across the same PRI - is there any changes/add for routing. Users now just dial 9 for an outside line and call either local or LD.
3) Do I need to be concerned about VM changes?
4) I've seen posts relating to DID numbers going to a target number?? Ex. DID 400 could be mapped/programmed to ring on ext. 221???
5) Last question - will Norstar remote Utilities 9.0 work with the new 6.x software upgrade for remote admin?

Thanks in advance

As you say, you are “new to this.” Correctly configuring a PRI and programming the MICS accordingly is not really an easy place to start. I recommend you find a qualified Nortel Vendor. I do not make this statement to insult you. I don’t know your background. It is only a recommendation to someone who may not be aware of the scope of such a project. There are many considerations; the first being if your provider has configured the PRI correctly for your system and needs.

Agree with all the above but I would also add that I would use at least 4 digits as my DID's. As the system grows you can run into numbering problems using just the 3. Just my thoughts, oh and it will accept 0 as a lead digit if that's what you're worried about.

I'm normally on the user side of the endless "vendor v. user" arguments, but for something this complex you definitely want a vendor to handle it unless you've got the requisite expereince--and based on your post, you don't.

1) Your extension numbers don't need to change--but it would be easier all around if they did.

2) Routing should be the same, or similar--though your line pool would be PRI-A.

3) Only if your extension numbers change or if you're using an auto attendant.

4) DIDs get built as target lines, and those target lines can be assigned to any set(s).

5) NRU 9.0 will not work with 6.0, but 9.1 will. 10.0 is required for 6.1. NRU 10 is available on Nortel's website, search this forum to find the link.

Again, this is not something you want to do yourself, regardless of how much money you think you'll "save.

Thanks for the honest answers. I'm comfortable with Norstar systems, but have never installed/setup one for PRI/DID and wasn't sure what it involved.

From what I'm seeing from the responses, it's best to get a experienced tech in - which makes sense for future support since it's a remote site.

Agree with 4 digit dialing for DID for growth, but this location is a small sales office and will never grow past 20.

Again - thanks for the tips and the rapid response from you all :)

a note for you:
A received number cannot be the same as, or be the start digits of a line pool access code, a destination code, the DISA DN or the Auto DN.

what I was specifically looking at was the Auto DN. which is default at 0 so if you are going to go with 4 digit received numbers then you need to re-assign the operator auto-DN.

The AUTO DN is the same length as the REC digits. The AUTO DN is used for Remote Access.

Sorry I was thinking of Direct dial.
