Does anybody know how to program a call waiting tone? When user is on an active call the user would like a tone to sound on the receiver when another call comes in.
Yes, you are right curlycord, tone is provided by the carrier. Maybe I worded that wrong.....
Is there a way to program the phone so that a "whisper tone" is heard in the receiver when you are on a call? Currently, that doesn't happen and only the line appearance button lights up. THANKS!!!
Yes, call waiting is an option available to a business. "Call Waiting" probably wasn't the best word to use for this tread...I'm really looking for a faint sound to be audible in the receiver when on an active call, along with the line appearance flashing.
Why would you need call waiting if you have multiple lines??? I've never heard of business lines not having call waiting capability, however I do agree w/ programming all lines to appear and ring on that phone. Call waiting is not necessary.
I think HF means they want to hear the 2nd inbound call to the set via the receiver instead of the usual through the speaker on the set.
By default you hear a softer ring through the sets speaker while on a call.
To turn the soft ring off you turn ON the DND on Busy.
DND ON BUSY is not available on DR5 so the speaker will always ring and cannot be turned off, unless of course you are using Forward or using Do Not Disturb.
Thank you for clarifying curlycord. I mainly work with an Avaya platform, but i have several other small systems that I support as well. This Norstar system is at a site that is newly acquired and I apologize for my lack of explaination or wording on my question. The user states that she used to hear a tone in her ear when a second call came in and now she doesn't and the user uses a headset. Any tips on this would be helpful. Thanks!!
Could you be talking about call "Held Reminder" after a call has been put on hold you get the reminder tone every 15,30,45 or 60 seconds. Just takeing a shot in the dark.
Sounds like the call waiting buzz tone found on the meridian one/cs1000. For system consistency, It baffles me why Nortel never had this buzz tone feature on the Norstar-BCM. Softer ring is the only option I am aware of.
Since most, if not all Norstar sets have a headset jack builtin, why would you have a lifter apparatus? That is one of the best features about those sets, and not having any additional junk to make the headset work!
I am talking about the volume control on the lifter, not the headset or amplifier.
"That volume on the lifter is for the tone only and not the actual conversation volume which is controlled by the headset and set."
Btw you must have a lifter to hear the tone so if they dont have one now then they must have had one when they heard the tone. So Norstar and BCM have it.
Some IP sets have EHS Electronic Hook Switch technology now.
