My system is a Compact ICS with a CI trunk cartridge in it. My VM system is CallPilot 100.

Currently, when someone calls into our business, the Caller ID will read "Missouri Call" rather than giving the name of the caller. After the call is picked up, a series of buttons can be pressed to view the callers information, including the telephone number and the name of the caller. I'm not sure why our system is displaying "STATE Call" rather than the actual name of the caller. Any ideas?

The system itself doesn't know the name (or the location) of the callers. It simply displays the information provided by the telephone company.

Usually, a name like "Missouri Call" is seen when there is no name associated to the number. It can also mean that the telephone company didn't even bother querying the database to find the name. In either case, the telephone company supplies a replacement name based on the area code.

However, after the call is answered, you said that you can use the Call Information feature (by pressing Feature 811 or by pressing the INFO softkey) to view the actual name of the caller. It makes me wonder whether one of your lines isn't named "Missouri".

On Norstar, Caller ID is divided into three parts: the name of the caller, the number of the caller and the name of the line on which the call came in. You can choose the part that is automatically displayed on a set. In programming, have a look at this setting:

Terminals & Sets > [Set] > Telco Features > 1st Display

Just checked. It is, in fact, set to display "Name" under "1st Display" with the options of Name, Number or Line.

That's fine.

Caller ID shouldn't contain multiple names. If "Missouri Call" is the name sent by the telephone company, you shouldn't see another name when using the Call Information feature:

[ol 1]
[li]The phone rings: the name (for example, "Missouri Call") appears on the display after the first ring.[/li]
[li]You answer the call: the name (for example, "Missouri Call") is still shown on the display.[/li]
[li]You press Feature 811 or the INFO softkey: the name (for example, "Missouri Call") is still shown on the display.[/li]
[li]You press # or the NEXT softkey: the number (for example, "3142345678") shows on the display.[/li]
[li]You press # or the NEXT softkey again: the line (for example, "Line001") shows on the display.[/li]
[/ol]

Can you point out in which of the above steps you see the actual name (for example, "DOE JOHN")?

Some Cellular providers like Verizon will only pass the name of city or state of towers...not customers name.We fought with Verizon out West in AZ. on this already.

I believe that I was incorrect. Maybe this only happened when the caller ID was set to show the number and the actual name was coming in. I'm guessing that our telephone provider (CenturyLink) doesn't transmit the names of hardly anyone. We receive over 200 calls a day and 98% of them only show "STATE Call".

That would make sense.

At least, now you know where to find the 1st Display setting.

As a matter of fact, CenturyLink's website confirms your thoughts:

http://www.centurylink.com/wholesale/clecs/features/callerid.html[/URL]]In some instances, Caller ID will display the state or country of the originating WTN rather than "Unavailable" when that call is received from outside the CenturyLink network.

In other words, whenever the caller is not a customer of CenturyLink, you will see the location of the caller rather than its name.

If Caller ID is important for your business, you may want to check with other providers in your area whether they have the same constraint.
