Hi....have been working on MICS for years, some with NAM, 12X0 and 0X16. I've never had to add or delete any of these modules though. I have an MICS and a couple of each modules in my basement to play with. How does one go about adding a module? Can this be done live, or does the system have to be down. Will it auto detect...nd what about removing modules?

Can somebody give me a quick lowdown on how to do this? Thanks.

You can power on the expansion modules and then connect the fiber cable to the expansion card. No need to power down the MICS. Trunk Modules are added from the top port(8) and work down. Station modules are added from the bottom port(3) and work up. You might have to go into the Hardware portion of programming to change the module type.

Yes, it will not auto sense it. If it is the first trunk module for instance installed on the system, then by default, under Hardware, mod 8 will automatically be a trunk module, so that one will come up for you.

If it is the first station module installed on the system (ver y bottom slot, it will show 3 right on the 6 port card), then under Hardware it will show stn module, so that one will come up for you. The other module slots, usually show stn module so you will need to program those as whatever module you have.

You have to disable the module in Maintenance, module status, show module, just hit next and it will bring up 3 for instance. Disable it.
Then Header out to Maintenance, then go into Hardware and program the mod 3 for stn module. Header back out to Hardware, then go back into Maintenance, module status and re-enable the module.
That is the basic installation path.
1. Power up module, plug in the ds30 fiber cable into the port desired on the 6 port card.
2. Go into Maintenance, disable the port where the card is at on the 6 port card.
3. Come back out and go into Hardware and tell the system what kind of module is installed.
4. Come back out and go BACK into Maintenance and re-enable the module.

To de-install, just power it off and take it off. No programming needed.
