I have a customer who reported to me that occasionally all/some of the phones on their system resync and the lights on each phone flashs. If they are on a call the call will be dropped. The phones are a mixture of M7324, M7310 and M7208. The KSU has one fully used 6-port copper expansion board. The software is DR5 and uses a 2-part NVRAM. The KSU is on an Oneac surge suppressor. There are about 85 phones in service as well as a startalk voicemail.

I still need to get a list of which phones/ports, if not all phones/ports, have the problem but do you have any thoughts on this problem or have you seen this before?

Well if it is some phones then could be an AMP cable or Fibre cable is loose or the module is pooched.

What do the Alarm codes say?

Given the age of this beast I'd guess the power supply was going. It could also be the software cartridge, so I'd try that first since it would be a much simpler replacement. I'd recommend getting them into a MICS as they can be had pretty cheaply these days.

Thanks for the replies.

I have started gathering data about which phones have this problem. I am going to try to pin it down to a station module first. The office manager just reported that while on a conference call her phone blinked (resynced) every few minutes.

Curly cord: This system uses copper expansion modules but they could have loose cords, I will check.

The customer was going to upgrade to a VOIP phone system so I was not too concerned about this problem. They just got some bids in and they could not swallow the price so they put the total phone system replacement project on hold. They will now more agreeable to the replacement of some of their existing phone system parts.

UPDATE :
It seems the price of new phone equipment has killed the upgrade to IP phones.

I have done more testing on the 8x24 system. Seems that when I do a button inquiry on some phones, all phones reset. So far the phones I have found doing it are all in the base cabinet. I had to move one phone from 240 to 306 to solve the problem at that phone. I used the same phone. I have done the button inquiry on a few phones in the base 8x24 system and many of them are fine. So far all phones tested in other modules have been fine. I am going back to the site soon and I will run the test on every phone in the base cabinet.

I will check the alarm codes tomorrow if I get time.

Curly: The only alarm code in 2018 on the phone system is "289 S8" which shows that it happened today. Other codes are 299 and 629

I checked into upgrading the 8x24 to an MICS and that would require a new base cabinet, all new modules (6 copper to fiber), a 6-port fiber expansion board and a new voicemail system (startalk 2.0.4.I to CP). There was a 6 port copper module made for the MICS but the system could only use one and they are hard to come by now. All in all, that is an option.

289 - The code is trying to access a structure with an invalid index - Contact your local support group and get restart tracebacks (including RTP tracebacks in a North American system).
Strange it only happened today.

Per mentioned or otherwise
-Try a STARTUP(in case software is glitched)
-Replace the NVRAM and/or Software
-Replace the Expansion card (if it effects the cabinet)
-Replace the KSU

Outta Ammo!
