Now that the 6.0v software is capable of a third T-1 card, can it be utilized as PRI? Also, is there a need for timing for the third card? I was always told there needs to be either a Combo Card or Services Card for each T-1 in a switch..Please advise. Thanks
Thanks Commsguy.
What do you know about this "new trunk mod"? Does it only work with 6.0 and above? Any other details would be helpful..Thanks
Actually, salo0920, the information I have since learned is that the DTI card that goes in the trunk mod is a different type of card. The DTI card should be installed in the first slot of a trunk module that is installed in the mod 8 or 7 port of the first 6 port expansion card in slot 2.
Nothing to be sorry for,Commsguy. I am learning as I go and am here for help like most of the rest of us on this site. I appreciate your response as always...
My understanding about the third T-1 is that it can be used for PRI but you need the mcdn key code. It's for networking purposes or something like that. But if you are going simple t-1 all you need is the new version card. You should already have a service card or combo card in the system.
All I can tell you is what I was told in a Nortel training class "There's a right way, a wrong way and then there's The Nortel Way!" I am in the middle of trying to get one to work as well and having all kinds of issues. And I HATE issues....
On the MICS with 6.0 swoftware you may add a third T-1 circuit to the first slot of the first or second trunk module on the system. The DTI card that fits into the slot is a different card. The part number is NT7B74AAAA. The older card WILL NOT work in the trunk module. There is NOT a new trunk module! Simply a new card that goes into the first slot of trunk mod 8 or 7. Nothing else can then be used in that trunk module.
Clocking/ timing is still controlled by either a Services card or 6 port Combo card as usual. Since you have so many T-1s in the system it would be wise to either add a second 6 port combo card (if you have XC sw) or a Services card so that you have sufficient DTMF receivers to handle three T-1s.
The MCDN (Meridian Customer Defined Network) is for when the customer is networking two systems together using a point to point PRI circuit. This enables the customer to add a NAM 4.1 and have centralized auto attendant/ voicemail.
You may add a third T-1 with just the new card and the appropriate services or 6 port combo card. OR add the PRI enabler code to make it a PRI. OR add the MCDN keycode to network two systems together.
I have this up and working on my switch here in my lab.
