Hi Guys (Gals)
My problem, having exhaustive tried everything I can think of.
MS word (03)-> I alter the options namely, switch canvas off, smart tags off and check the 'prompt to save normal template', 'prompt to save document properties' and 'allow fast saves'. In addition I have customised most of the visible toolbars to cater for my job. BUT....
When I exit Word it doesn't ask if I want to save normal.dot, despite checking this option. Upon restart the toolbars remain in their customised state, however the options as aforestated return to their post altered state i.e. drawing canvas on, 'prompt to save doc properties off' etc etc.

What I have tried- opening normal.dot direct from its templates folder and saving it with the changes. Deleting normal.dot and renaming one of my own documents as it. I have even switched off virus checker and GoBack incase they are somehow responsible for caching the settings or something bizzare. I can't find anything else that could be in the slightest bit responsible for this template in either my own docs&settings/'my personal folder' or the docs&settings/defaultuser folder

Anyone know what is happening? Why? and moreover how to make the normal.dot change to the way I want it.

Many thank in advance.
Si

There are two possibilities - an AddIn interfering with Normal.dot, or your IT/Tech Support people interfering with Normal.dot. Both are, IMHO, unacceptable.

The AddIn most often responsible is Acrobat - if you have version 7 (the writer, not the reader) then upgrade to at least 7.0.5, If not Acrobat, check out your other AddIns - remove them all and replace one by one until you find the guilty one.

If you have explicitly saved your normal.dot, however, an AddIn is probably not the cause, but note that Normal.dot must be created by Word, you cannot rename something else as normal.dot.

Your IT people could either overwrite your normal.dot or prevent you saving it in the first place. If they are to blame and cannot be made to understand that they are wrong they can be beaten but exactly how depends on exactly what they've done.

Enjoy,
Tony
