noob question, VOIP why do they require MS Exchange services?

Just curious why it needs exchange to run. One day our exchange server shut down (ran out of room) and we lost VOIP.

Just another attempt to learn all I can Thanks!

Remember, this is probably my 4th post. I was thrust into an IT position I am not qualified for yet my boss knows it and everyone thinks I'll manage (only an A+ cert...). I'm doing my best to absorb as much as possible...another post, sorry.

Dont know the solution to your problem but just remember to multiply your repair estimates by a factor of 4. That way when you finish in 1 day instead of 4 they will think you are a miracle worker.

Your exchange server could have been also your DHCP server or running a piece of whatever voip system you are using. Who knows maybe you exchange server was running active directory? What VOIP system are you using?

Joamon, thanks, common sense helped me figure that one out on day one. Very important indeed, maybe a contributing factor as to why they are under the impression I can actually do this. :) Another is that I have never exaggerated my ability. I have been straight with them and also let them know that I will give it an honest effort.

At this point everything is running fine. I'm attempting just to figure it out (along with many other areas/subjects/processes). Thanks guys,

Drew

I believe that Exchange 2003 has presence tracking and sip capabilities. So you could integrate it with your Voip system...

In the future everything will work...
