NOOB question...How to tell if it is DUAL core or single core?

I keep getting confused between dual core and 2 x single core etc...

what is the exact way of finding out?

i used to think it was just by going to task manager and seeing how many separate processor windows there were, but i recently found out that i was wrong.

is there any application which can tell me? thanks
