Hey Guys,

I did a lot of work on AutoCAD back in university and had a blast with it. I'm trying to pick it up again and I'm running into niggling problems but I'm managing to work through them with my AutoCAD bible.

However, I can't seem to figure out how to enter feet and inch measurements. For example when I use the line tool I've tried entering:

Specify next point or [Undo]: @0'0.25,0
Point or option keyword required.
Specify next point or [Undo]: @0'0.25",0
Point or option keyword required.
pecify next point or [Undo]: @0'0-1/4",0
Point or option keyword required.
Specify next point or [Undo]: @0'1/4",0
Point or option keyword required.
Specify next point or [Undo]: Cancel

None of these work, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the help.

Alright mate,

First thing, and I'm sorry if I sound patronising here but, have you actually set the drawing units to feet and inches? If not type units on the command line. Then select [/b]Architectural[/b] for the main "length" units and wahtever for the angle units. Note: Make sure that you select inches for the DesignCentre block insertion units too.. Blah, blah, blah - you probably knew how to do that anyway, so sorry!

With regards to the way you enter the measurements, you don't actually need to enter the preceeding 0. Bascically, if it's less than 1 foot, don't bother entering the 0', and the same for inches - if the measurement is in whole feet, don't bother entering 0 inches..

You've written:
@0'0.25,0 or @0'0.25",0

....when it should look like this:
@0.25",0

Also, with fractional units, you've written:
@0'0-1/4",0 or @0'1/4",0

....when it should look like this:
@1/4",0

You can even miss out the inches (") symbol and it'll still work but remember, you must always enter the feet symbol (if there are any, of course) or AutoCAD will assume you mean inches, even if you enter something like this:
@5-1/4,0 (this draws a line 5.25 inches long)..

Hope you find this of some help!!

Thanks,

Renegade..

Thanks for the help, I didn't realize that AutoCAD would assume that the measurements would be in inches, I assumed that AutoCAD would assume feet.

DOH!

Oh well, problem sorted, thanks for the help.
