Not really a phone guy, but I was told to switch two phones (One line has the 7310, the other has a 7324. The original installer (Williams Telecom) didn't turn on the feature where phone settings stay with the phone, so I have to redo the buttons on the phone. One of the buttons was Night Ringer (Feature 871) and was on the 7324 phone. Moving it to the other extension, I now get a "Denied in admin" message when I hit Feature 871 on the 7324. Does anyone have a fix?

Thanks in advance.

Chen

If you are talking about set relocation. It is ussually only turned on when used. If you want I could email you directions on how to turn on and some other helpful hints.

executone: Yes! You are a lifesaver. I just need some kind of documentation on this system (Installer didn't leave much... and they don't provide service anymore). If I could get the phones to carry their button config with them that would save a lot of time. However, it sounded like the 7324 is an administrator phone or something like that. It sounds important that I learn how to assign that privelege to another phone (Feature 871 works when it's on that extension but not any other).

My e-mail address is sushi600@yahoo.com

Info on its way. Also Williams Communications is now Nextira One. It is Wiliams communications and Staples Communications companies combined into one service provider.

First, at the 24 button phone, press feature *0, then press an intercom button to make sure it is the extension you think it is.

If it is not, you can go into system programming and change DN's, entering the extension it is first, then the extension it should be. If that was the case, you can probably now use feature 871.

Otherwise, go into "services" from the mail level of programming (feature ** 266344 266344, next, next, show). Press next until you find common settings. Press show twice and enter your first line number. Change as needed and press next for your next line. Continue as needed until all lines are set. Press release. The control set is the only one with the permission to use feature 871.

executone: Thanks for the e-mails. Going through the manual today.

pjolly: I was wondering if you could spell out what DN's are exactly. By following your instructions, would I be able to have the extension "follow" the guy? i.e. he was at extension 227 (with a 7324, located in reception area), now he is sitting at 305 (with a 7310 in another room). I want to switch the phones so that he has the 7324 in his new location, but don't really care which extension he is at (305 or 227 either is ok). However, I noticed that the Ringing Service cannot be turned on by any extension except 227. So following your instructions, I would change the DN's to switch the two extensions. Something like:

OLD

Physical location: Receptionist area
extension 227
phone 7324

Physical location: Office
extension 305
phone 7310

NEW

Receptionist area
extension 305
phone 7310

Office
extension 227
phone 7324

Is this correct?

Again, I really appreciate the help.

Best Regards,

Chen

Chen,
First, DN is Nortel-speak for extension. Now, as to swapping extensions. The easiest by far is to use set relocation. I'm assuming you have relatively new programming. If so, when you enter programming (feature ** 266344 266344) you will see "Terminals&Sets". Follow these steps (SHOW and NEXT refer to the buttons next to the triangles that appear on the right hand column of buttons on your phone when you enter programming. Programming must be done from a system phone that has three "soft keys" under the display)

1. At “Terminals & Sets” press NEXT until the display reads “System programming”.
2. Press SHOW. The display reads “Hunt Groups”. Press NEXT twice.
3. The display reads “Featr settings”. Press SHOW. Then press NEXT until the display reads “Set relocation:?”. Use CHANGE to toggle Y to move phones, N to turn feature off. Exit programming.
4. Unplug the phone(s) you want to move. Unplug a maximum of two at a time. Plug in the first set you unplugged at the new location. Wait five minutes for the set to “read” its new location, then press Feature *0, and press an intercom button. The display will show the extension number and name. If correct, you may now plug the other phone in to its new location. Wait five minutes to check the status using Feature *0. Deactivate Set Relocation after moving phones.

If you have old programming, when you use feature ** 266344 266344, you'll see "a.Configuration". If that is the case:

1. Enter into programming by pressing Feature **266344 266344
2. The display will say “A. Configuration”.
3. Press SHOW. The display reads “1. Line Data”
4. Press NEXT three times. The display reads “4. Miscellaneous”
5. Press SHOW. The display reads “Background music”
6. Press NEXT seven times. The display reads “Set relocation: N”
7. Press the soft key under CHANGE to Y(es)
8. Press Rls to finish.
9. Unplug the phone you want to move. At the new location, unplug the second set if needed. Deactivate Set Relocation after moving phones.

pjolly:

Thanks for the info. I tried turning on set relocation, but I don't seem to have that option. After "System prgrming" I only have two submenus: "Hunt Groups" and "BusName:None"

Is my system too old?

Chen,
What do you see when you press feature ** 266344 266344?

Chen,
Just checked, and you probably logged in with feature ** 266344 23646 instead of 266344 266344. Try it with the "config" password and you should be in business.

pjolly: That's it! Thanks! This time it worked beautifully. Saved me a lot of time for the last two phones (I had moved 4 phones earlier by physically switching the lines -- I'm such a dunce).
You guys/gals are lifesavers.

Eternally grateful,

Chen
