Nonsense instead of text

I am getting a line of nonsense symbols when I try to enter text on a document. I have tried cutting and pasting text from another document, only the headline appears as words and on that line I can then type and see words not symbols. The rest of the pasted text turned into symbols. I don't see what I may have hit to cause this problem. I checked Pagemaker reference books but didn't find this problem addressed.

You may have changed the default style to Symbol font, or something similar. Try changing default styles to a known good font.

You don't specify what sort of doc you are copy/pasting from. Never cut and paste text into PM, unless you are doing so from another PM doc. It will cause problems, and may also be the cause of the nonsense text.

If you are trying to bring in from Word, try saving doc as RTF format and then File>Place the text. That will yeild best results. Or you could use the Word import filter... I get mixed results with that and avoid it, usually. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Thank you for answering. The actual problem was Greek text, under Preferences > General,was activated below 9 pixels. When I lowered the pixel level to 1 the problem disappeared. I will remember your advice to not have further difficulties.
