It's the strangest thing, I've been having this problem for a while, I started out with Adobe Photoshop 5 on this computer and I couldnt get any of the tools but the selection tools to work. I bought Adobe Photoshop CS and I still can't get any of the tools except the selection tools to work.

At first I thought it was a color mode problem so I played with the color modes to see if any of them worked, still nothing.

Then I thought maybe it was a locked BG layer problem so I played around with that, with no luck.

This program is crucial to my job and the only tools I can use are selection.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

The most common problem is corrupted preferences. In many cases, you have to manually delete preferences before reinstalling Adobe apps. This is for both Windows and Mac. I work on a mac. On mac prefs are under User/Library/Preferences. You delete everything that says Adobe Photoshop, including 'com.adobephotoshop.plist". The reinstall PS.

If you use a PC, hopefully someone will come along and tell you how to trash prefs on Windows.
