Non VoIP Functionality Question

Hi Folks,

This may be a daft question but I need to understand how resources are shared on an IP Office using Digital handsets and analogue lines only, so no VoIP. I have only used IPO with T1 or SIP trunks and IP handsets so am familiar with how stations use trunks in an IP environment.

From the config of this particular IPO, I can see that the ports on the digital base card are configured per handset so extension 123 is configured on port 1, extension 124 is configured on port 2, etc. The analogue lines (from the CO) are also configured on the base (trunk) card as you would expect.

In this setup, it appears to me that everything has a one-to-one connection, meaning that each station is configured with a dedicated outbound (analogue) line. How are the analogue resources shared (configured) so that any handset can use any line if it is available?

Thanks for your info.

Outgoing line group, same as any other type of line. Whatever shortcode the user matches determines what line group they use (sometimes via ARS), if the lines are in that group they're used if not they aren't :)

All lines (or channels on digital trunks and SIP URIs on SIP trunks) are by default put into Outgoing line group 0.

The shortcodes used to route an outgoing call specifies a line group number (again the default is 0) and the call then uses any available line in that group.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Thanks guys. I need to do more work on the IPO in the next day or so and verify everything then.
