Non SU users get "ERROR: unknown host" when using ping

Hi, I'm *really* new to Unix (I'm the Nortel PABX guy here!) so forgive any vague questions here...

I have a Unixware 7.1.1 box that displays an odd behaviour. If I'm logged in as a superuser, I try ping and get:

# ping hostname
hostname.network.com.au is alive

If I'm logged in as a "normal" user, I get this:

$ ping hostname
UX:ping: ERROR: unknown host hostname

If I ping as either user to the IP address, it's fine - it's only the names that cause issues. nslookup works fine with the names for both SU and normal users - it's only ping that won't work.

I am only using the resolv.conf file, not /etc/hosts. The other UX boxes are all using etc/hosts but we need to get off this and utilise the DNS server. (the network changes too much to manage all the UX boxes' etc/hosts files). So, if I can get this UX box to work, my life will be easier...

Any ideas on what I'm missing here?

Thanks...
