Hello All,

I am trying to prevent my users from entering a non inventory item onto a manually keyed order during Order Entry. I cannot find any check boxes in OE setup or Inventory Setup that will prevent this occurrence. If I am missing something, can someone please let me know what that could be. Thank you.

You can't do this in vanilla macola. However, I would assume that Flex could create a condition where you couldn't move off the field unless the item was in the master file. We need the flex experts to tell us if this is true. If so, I might consider this solution for one of my clients as well.

I changed the message in the System Manager to Read "Item not Allowed, Select No and Search for the correct item

Just as a note for future use, there actually is a way to prevent a non inventory item from being keyed into an OE order. On the OE set up screen, first page, there is a check box that reads 'Insufficient Qty Substitute Item Check?' If this is selected, and you try to enter a non inventory item, you will get an error message and you will be redirected to the item number field. Found this quite by accident during a recent implementation.

Rob: this sounds like a "feature" macola doesn't realize exists. I will surely try it for my client. I also like Jonathan's idea of changing the message text. Good idea! Rob, did you find this in 7.6.100 or 200?

I found this in 7.6.100 but I am sure it does the same in 7.6.200. The reason I think this is because of the setting itself. If you were going to maintain a substitute item cross reference, you would have to think that whatever you put in will be checked against that file if there is none on hand. So, if you put in a non inventory item, you will have none on hand and the system will then look to the substitute cross reference. Not finding it there, it tells you this is not an inventory item. That's my theory anyway. The way I found it was trying to create an order for something that did not exist in the item file and the customer didn't want in the item file. At order entry time, OE would not let them enter the item. After I changed this setting, it would.
