non-email alert

Hello,

My exchange admin is dragging his feet setting up the email service on our sql server. Is there anyway I can setup alerts when the jobs fail using a non-emailo method? I have full sql server 2000 on my laptop, and a broadcast to my connection would even suffice.

If the SQL Server service account has the appropriate permissions and if you have the Messenger service on your laptop/workstation enabled, you can use the Net Send option (available on both jobs and alerts). I do not know if the messages are queued (ie, whether they will be delivered the next time you log on if they occur off line).
