Hello

I have been receiving quite a lot of Bounce back NDR's recently - how can I establish where the problem is
My ISP or the recipients ISP

Sometimes a mail will be gone for days until finally we will receive a NDR - the intended recipient will insist that they have been receiving there mail as normal from everyone else.

Are there some tests that I can do to work this out?

Thanks for your comments

Graham

Can you post an example of the contents of one of your NDRs? This may help in trying to provide you with an answer.

Thanks joegz

Sorry for my previous rushed posting, I have spent a little more time looking at this, and understand a bit more about it.

It seems that a name server punt-1.mail.demon.net (Demon) is timing (451) out before resolving the recipient domain name and forwarding the mail to the account hosted by them (Demon).

Note - (We use a different ISP)

This has occured on two unrelated occaisions 1) on a private domain xxxxx.co.uk and 2) on a demon xxxxx.demon.co.uk domain

I pinged the server 212.49.220.42 yesterday and was getting unreliable results 2 out of 4 returns but it seems OK today
if I do a tracert on the above IP address I get to a diiferent server (or port ??) punt-21.mail.demon.net
in seven hops.

My original goal was to establish whether the problem was with my isp or Demon, I am pretty sure it is with Demon now and will take it up with them.

I use Outlook Express 6. It was working fine until recently. I did not change any settings. After logging on with my ISP and opening OE it indicates I am receiving message 1 of 12 but no messages download or appear.

I tried creating a new identity and with new mail folders but no luck. Help!
