Although it is possible to rack Compaq servers into non-Compaq racks,it is not recommended. The reasons are that the Compaq cabinets are designed to permit the correct airflow to the servers. Many non-Compaq racks have solid front doors, and there is no air flow from the front of the cabinet to the back. In addition Compaq say that if the server is installed in a non-Compaq rack that this invalidates the warranty on the server!! I have never had to test the validity of this statement.
From my experience, it can be a pain. The rails often can't be adjusted length-wise, and if the non-Compaq rack is off just by a little bit, you're lost.
As far as invalidating the warranty, yes if it the server is damaged due to restricted air-flow because you put it in rack with solid doors the warranty would probably be rendered void.

But like has already been stated, you have invalidated your warranty. I hope nothing goes wrong with your servers! -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"

Yes you can mount compaq servers in a thirdparty rack. There are specific rails made by compaq for this type of setup. They are called the depth adjustable fixed rail kit sold by Compaq. All industry standard racks are supposed to be 19 inch width, and if that is the case with your rack go ahead and install the depth adjustable rail kits and you will be able to mount your servers. Mostly, the only inconsistency with third-party racks is the depth on the rack and that is accomodated by these rails.
I hope this info isn't too late.
Good luck.
