I have been delegate the task of setting up a 2 node cluster. The application that I will be installing on each server is not a cluster aware application. The application does use a SQL 2005 database. I know that SQL 2005 is cluster aware.

What would be the best way to implement a 2 node cluster with a non cluster aware application that uses SQL 2005?

This is totally dependant on the application, some you can, some you can't. You just have to try it out and fiddle around and see how you go.

If the application uses the SQL as a backend then you will have to have the application a single server and the SQL Database on a 2 (or more) node cluster.

It does depend on a SQL backend. I was successfully able to cluster SQL 2005. Now, I have to figure out a way to cluster the application that uses the SQL database to failover to the other Node.

I know the application relies on its own Service to be running to function correctly. Maybe I can crear a Generic Service resource in Cluster Admininstrator and point it to the service that the application uses? Or should I use the gneric Application resource?
