I was wondering if anyone has ever thought (considered?) about the possibility of using "soo" in a context similar to "too". Yes, it looks weird but, in my warped mind, there's a correlation with the different forms of to, too, and two.

For example, "It snowed soo much last night I knew they'd cancel school so I called my friends and made plans for the day".

I am far from a wordsmith but doesn't this seem logical or do I need to see a doctor?

I am far from a wordsmith but doesn't this seem logical or do I need to see a doctor?"....

In there lies your problem. Logic does not exist in the English language.

I do think the new word is double-plus-good though.

“Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.”-Albert Einstein

I hope this isn't Valley-Girl-esque, as in
MoonUnit Zappa said:
I was, like, you know, soo off him, and she said, "I soo get that, girlfriend"

In which case Double-Minus

MeGustaXL, didn't think of it in Valley Girl speak so I am soo not agreeing with you .....

Well, then I think it's a perfectly silly idea, but that's just my opinion.

You can have varying degrees...for example, I tend to start off many an email in the morning with
I am sooooooooooooooo sleeeeeeeepy!

I'm a bit confused as to how it's a new word & not just being written differently (as pronounced) to provide emphasis?

"Your rock is eroding wrong." -Dogbert

good thought, I never considered the number of o's to be optional based on the intended degree of emphasis.

I'm sure this is perceived as an attempt to add more complexity to the English language, which is already confusing, but I think my idea has merit based on the proper usage of to, too, and two.

"I drove to the game because it was too far to walk".

Pronounced the same, written differently

Are you saying that 'so' would then be pronounced {s?} as in to, too and two? and is there then a correlating 'swo' that indicates a numerical value?

If not, then I don't get the correlation you are attempting to draw? Silly (fun) as the discussion may be.

mjldba,

I can kind of see where you're coming from, but the word "so" already covers the meaning you are looking for.

You seem to be relating soo to the following definition* of too: "to an excessive degree". But so already has the definition, "to a great extent or degree".

Sadly my grammar knowledge is not sufficient to describe this properly (hoping someone better educated will help me out!) but surely to & too are different types of word, which would not be the case with so & soo?

To, two and too are unrelated words. This is a silly discussion, even for here. [smile]

Of course, this is silly. I was just having fun with this to see where it would go (slow day for MAI) and there was no serious intent.

I've always said/typed multiple o's on so....

To my wife: "I love you soooooooooooooooooooooooo much!"

(Notice the multiple o's for emphasis).

I still pronounce it "sew", and not "soo" (or "sue")... but will extend the sound of the long "o" to speak the emphasis.

"I'm soooooooooo tired"
"He ticked me off sooooo much" (Not nearly as ticked as I was tired, however... you get the idea) hehe
