You can go to the mfgrs website and download the diagnostics program for it, you can put it on a floppy or a cdr. Use it to check your h drive out.
I agree with micker to the point that you shouldnt trust this drive to hold your data as the noise you described is the noise of a hard drive that is going to go bad on you.
If under warranty you should be calling the mfgr to get an rma number to return it for replacement, but they will likely have you run the diagnostics anyway.
