Noise with Internet Explorer

I know this isn't really a problem ,but it's driving me potty! Suddenly yesterday, (for no reason, I haven't changed any sounds in the control panel), every time I click onto a link in I.E. I have an irritating sound, almost like a plunger being pulled from a plughole!!!!
I've checked every wav.& can not find this sound any where. What's going on?
