Node Agent ?

Hi all,

I am new to HP OpenView Operation. I would like to ask that do I really need to install "Agent Software" into my managed device, if I want to collect its' logfiles and sent it to management server(HP-OVO).

What happen if the managed device runs:
1) with SNMP
2) without SNMP

No you don't in fact, though it's quite often done that way.

Another alternative would be send syslog messages to the HP OVO server by editing syslog.conf.

However, if you want to monitor other logfiles on that machine the OVO agent might well be the way to go.

I don't know a lot about SNMP but I don't think you can use it to pass logfile contents. Mike
