Hi to all,
have a quick and easy question to help someone's ratings.
I have a small problem with files being placed on a network filesystem from another system under the username of nobody in the system group.
This is causing problems with the backup as a files UID cannot be greater than 65535.

I can chown them to something else, but I would like these files placed on the NFS everyday.
Hope someone can give me some helpful hints.

Phil,

These files will be created by someone in the NFS mounted filesystem making changes as the root user on the relevant system. This unfortunately is the default, after all you do not want them to be owned by root:system how would you know what the local root user had done? You will need to chown these files manually.

All you have to do is make sure the uid is the same on both systems.

So if user joe = uid 1001 on the remote server, then you need a user joe = uid 1001 on your system.

If this is not poss, write a script to change all nobody:system owned files to a valid uid below 65536 and call it from your backup script.

Thanks both,
I'll try both suggestions.
I'm using an inhouse written script (not by me) called savesyco. I think its a gloryfied Tar to tape, but it closes applications such as oracle and SAP first.
