We have stopped hosting a web site for a client that is now being hosted at another company. We can access the web site externally but not internally. We have deleted the records in our dns for this web site but still are on able to access from internally. What I'm I missing? Shouldn't we be able to access it if the rest of the world is able too? I know the site is up because I can access it from my computer at home but not from my computer at work. Does our internal DNS server have to replicate to the external DNS servers on the web, and if so how do I force it to happen so we stop getting the page not found message?

try pinging the address - are you getting the old address or new one back? It may be cached on your DNS server yet...

I am unable to ping it. I get a message that stats could not find host.
I have cleared the DNS Cach but it still gives me the same results.

and i take it that you don't have any conditional forwarders in place for the zone anywhere in DNS?

Did you clear the local DNS? ipconfig/flushdns

I'm Certifiable, not certified.

I just tried the ipconfig/flushdns and it still can't find web site.

Try to ping the numerical address.

Did you delete it from your webserver? Your DNS server checks local address first before querying outside I think.

The system admin that told me she deleted from dns didn't delete the zone. She only deleted the record for the server in question. I deleted the zone and it is working fine now.

However i put a posting in the exhange forums that i am unable to send mail to their server at the other agency but it works fine outside but not if we send it form in house. It seems to be going to our local server into thier storage group. I want to retain this for a week or so and i have removed the mx record. We where hosting their email server as well but it is now at the other location. What can i look for or what else do i need to delete to get mail to go to thier server?
