we have an BCM 1000 (about 3 years old), phone system runs fine but no voicemail is working. we've rebooted the system a few times. what can we do to bring back voicemail.

i've got the system in house. Specifically, what do we need to check with the MSPEC card?

you need to check they are seated correctly. They are the memory resources that run your voicemail and other applications. They will be on the MSC card, They look like PCMCIA cards that slide in to a laptop. But they are memory resources for the BCM.

Can you access the voicemail????
What Happens when you try to dial the voicemail???

you get inactive feature

I would say it is the MSPEC card that runs the voicemail. I have had the same problem when I received a BCM in transit one time.It had been knocked about a bit and the MSPEC card had came loose.

Many old BCM1000 had problems with the motherboard that caused the OS not to load and as such none of the software apps would either, voicemail included. The phones themself will work as the config is held in the NVRAM and will work even if the OS has crashed.

Check if you can log into the server through the web admin pages.

I am not sure if having the VM service turned off would result in the message you got. Check Services to see it the service is turned on.

after I got it in house, i figured it out it was the hard disk. Dropped in a norstar for the time being while the customer decides if he wants a new hard disk.

The system is 5 years old. Can we put a 3.5 or 3.6 hard drive in? Will we run into trouble? Do I need to add RAM (currently 128mb)?

I have put in 3.6 on older BCM 1000's without doing the upgrade route, but I can't get the Modem to be seen by the system. when I use the upgrade route from 3.0 to 3.6 it works. I always add memory to 256Mb and change the PEC's to type III.

There is a whole set of threads about older BCMs, but just follow acewarlock's advice and you will be fine. If the MSC card is the right rev.

has anyone ever tried to connect a call pilot 100/150 to some digital extension ports. Would it work?
