Hi Ladies and Gents,

have been experiencing this issue on several models of compaq laptop, have relayed this problem to thier tech support guys and they have not been able to come up with anything.

When playing a video on the laptop i.e. DVD, Mpeg, Avi etc i can view the video image on the laptop but not an external display, If i use the FN+F4 function then i am able to get the video on the external display but not the laptop screen! Everything else displays fine such as the desktop but the video itself does not.

The laptop is running a ATI Radeon 9200 card.

Any ideas on how to sort this?

Wasnt much help i'm affraid temporello.

That thread discussed feautres that are not available on my STI control pannel. things like the thearter mode are not on my controll pannel.

Thanks anyway.

Any other suggestions?

Are you sure?
I have a Radeon 9200 card myself.
It's in display properties, settings, advanced and overlay if I'm not mistaken.

The only setting present in my overlays pannel are as follows.

Brightness,
Contrast,
saturation,
Hue,
gamma,
Tick box - Discplay Warning Message
And a defaults button

There is no mention of any other settings.

This is definatly an odd one, have been looking through the user manual for the 9200 ATI card, the screen dumps and text in thier suggest thier should be a 'clone mode' button in the overlays tab.

I dont have this on mine! any ideas to why?

Have you upgraded to the newest drivers, it may be that you're running a very old version which didn't have the feature available.

Latest eddition of the drivers are in guys, no results as of yet.

The video card in discussion here is in a notebook, it is one of the radeon jobbies. does this make any difference?

i notice in the user guid it says you can only use the clone options when the video is viewed using 'dual-controller clone mode' what does this mean!

this sort of stuff brings me to the edge of dispare, you have 'compaq' and 'ATI' two of the leading IT manufacturers in the world and they cant get it together! seriously! someone in thier testing dept needs nozzling! how can you release a defective product like this.

Another thing that may be worth noting is that the connected display does not appear as a secondary display in the the display settings pannel.

If you click the identify button then both monitors seem to have the number '1' presented on them.

I have a few compaq n610c laptops running with the radeon 7500 series, these seem to work fine on thier existing driver, however if you upgrade these to the latest driver then it stopes working!

You wrote: "i notice in the user guid it says you can only use the clone options when the video is viewed using 'dual-controller clone mode' what does this mean"

It means that the clone mode options can only be changed if you have the 2 displays connected at the SAME time. But what you said before indicates that it is the case with you.

I've been to the ATI website and strangely enough they mention their "mobile solutions" but you can't find any manual or other stuff specific to those products...

I know, ATI say that for all support and drivers for the mobile solutons then you should contact the notebook manufacturer, have spoken to compaq and they seem to think that the issue is un-resolvable,

I guess they may be right however due to it working on previous model running an older version of the driver then i think they may be wrong.

Also as a further point, the option for clone settings is not just greyed out, it is non-existance, thier is just a space where it should be.

i believe i found a solution

you guys are on the right track with overlays simply disable overlays in win media player tools>options>performance>advanced uncheck "use Overlays
