Sorry for flooding the forum, but i"m pretty new and I'm trying to learn as much as I can....do you guys know why when i console into a cisco 2950 switch it takes me right to the
switch>
Never asks me for a username or password. I would like to set it up that way, with telneting the say way. To get to configuration mode you need a password but still no username. Thanks for any help you can provide.

So what you are trying to say is you want to be able to telnet into the switch, and just have to enter the password and no username?

Add a password to the console port.

conf t
lin con 0
password XXXXXX

the command
username me password me
will set up your local authentication database

you have to enable aaa new-model in global config mode.

go to line vty 0 4 and line con 0

use command aaa authentication local to configure these lines to use your local database as your source of authentication.
