We are setting up a batch of 20 4610 IP phones at a new location and they do not get the * to Program option. We have tried several phones and they all have the same issue. We've tried Hold-reset and Mute-clear commands but they don't do anything. Does anyone know what could cause this issue? The phones are on firmware 2.8.1.

yes, you have installed a password on the phones, and disabled local access to them, with settings in the 46xxsettings.txt file.

Put the following 2 lines in your 46xxsettings.txt file to clear out the passwords (this assumes you have a DHCP server with Option 176 setup, which is the only way you can do this)

SET PROCSTAT 0
SET PROCPSWD ""

Thanks, Mitch, that did the trick. We bought some refurb phones and they came like that.

yes phoneguy55, works on both 4600 and 9600 IP phones :)

phoneguy55, the only difference would be, the DHCP Option for 9600 IP phones is Option 242, and they would be downloading the files from an HTTP/HTTPS server, rather than a TFTP Server, as the 4600 IP phones do.

The 2 lines in the 46xxsettings.txt file are the same though, to clear out the password.

Mitch672,
I'm trying to reprogram 10 refurbished 4610SWs. I entered the two lines you suggested in the 46xxsettings.txt however I am receiving the same error message. The phone doesnt give the option *, and an error message is displayed- No Filesrv

I have 4610s and 4620s running fine on my server is there something im missing.

are you sure the phones are even downloading the new 46xxsettings.txt file? they may very well not be... if they are set for another VLAN, etc, there can be a lot of other issues, especially with use phones...

How do I check to see which VLAN the phones are on?
They arent receiving the settings file via the TFTP...

nnickgm, please start your own thread with your question, instead of hijacking an old thread. Thanks!
