When attemping to use XP system restore, there are no checkpoints listed. Also when I create a manual restore point it is not listed when I exit and return to system retore. My sys restore settings are set to monitor all my drives and the sys restore disk space is set to max. If it matters I have two users set on my PC, but I have tried to use the admin ID to try this as well. Please help! Thanks in advance.

Perhaps System File Checker tool (SFC) could fix this up. Did you ever have System Restore working. Have you tried disabling and turning on System Restore (rebooting) to see if this jogs it into working. Have a look at this Windows Knowledge Base article, Troubleshooting System Restore in Windows XP (Q302796) to see if it helps.

Thanks for your post. I've likely tried about everything by now, read the Windows article, ran SFC, logged in as Admin, ran in safe mode, diable/renable the service...etc, lol. I'm pretty sure it has never even worked after a OS reload, the last time it was reloaded was 1/2/02. I do some reg hacking, but I doubt I touched anything related to sys restore. Do you have any other suggestions?

Can you set it to monitor just one drive, that being the one with XP on it to see if it works properly like that. If it was my computer I probably would have re installed XP (clean install) several times by now or even looked at purchasing something like "Go Back" by now.

Have you checked under Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services / System Restore Service = Automatic/Started
??
Just a thought.

If anyone is reading this dated thread... I have since fixed the problem with a clean XP reload. I think I may have disabled or set a dependent service to manual. Restore works wonderful and really saved me a couple of times now!
