No SSID from my 1242s on a 4400.

I've gone through the 4400 configuration guide and everything looks great. The radios are reporting back and I can see them from the controller. The 1242 WAPs can see each other since the automatic channel selection and power levels look reasonable.

But no client can see any of my SSIDs. They are set to broadcast, but no such luck. Netstumbler reveals that the SSID is NOT in the air.

I tried to set a client to connect to the SSID as if it weren't broadcast, but it could not find it.

The controller shows the increasing count of packets flying out the radio and the status LEDs are normal and even show radio activity at appropriate times. But it's as if there's no signal. The signal strength it chose was 1 (of 8), but my client and separate Netstumber machine are within a few feet of the external antenna.

What am I overlooking?

On the WLAN page of the 4400 web server, I went to 'Edit' the WLAN in question. Under General Policies there is a checkbox:

Admin Status [ ] Enabled

I thought that determined whether that WLAN had Admin status, that is, whether users on that WLAN could administer the controller (which of course I want disabled). But no, it means whether that WLAN is enabled or not. Why it is called ADMIN status I can't even imagine.

So, progress.

Now on to configuring my RADIUS server to authenticate the various WLANs. I'm sure I'll be posting another question about that stuff soon enough.

Thanks everyone.
